How to convert annual salary to hourly pay

For a year-round salary, divide annual salary by 52 to estimate weekly gross pay. Divide that weekly amount by the number of hours normally worked each week to estimate an hourly equivalent.

For example, a $75,000 salary with a 40-hour workweek is about $36.06 per hour before taxes and deductions.

Biweekly vs. semimonthly pay

Biweekly normally means one paycheck every two weeks, or 26 paychecks in a typical year. Semimonthly normally means two paychecks per month, or 24 paychecks per year.

Because semimonthly has fewer pay periods, each semimonthly paycheck is normally larger than each biweekly paycheck when the annual salary is the same.

How to calculate hourly rate from biweekly salary

If you know your biweekly gross pay, divide it by the total number of hours worked during those two weeks. For a 40-hour workweek, that normally means dividing biweekly pay by 80 hours.

For example, $3,000 of biweekly gross pay divided by 80 hours equals an hourly equivalent of $37.50 before taxes and deductions.

Gross pay is not take-home pay

These conversions show gross salary equivalents only. Actual take-home pay can be lower after income taxes, payroll taxes, retirement contributions, insurance, benefits and other deductions.

Important: Educational and informational estimate only. This calculator converts gross salary between common pay periods. It does not calculate taxes, withholding or take-home pay and is not tax, payroll, legal or financial advice. Actual employer pay schedules and compensation arrangements may differ.
