Roth IRA Calculator: Estimate Your Future Retirement Growth

Project a Roth IRA balance from a starting balance, annual deposits, and an assumed annual return.

Calculate your scenario

How the calculation works

Each year the balance first earns the assumed return, then the annual contribution is added at year-end. The same contribution and return are used every year. This is a growth model; it does not decide eligibility, taxes, distributions, or future IRS limits.

Worked example

A $10,000 starting balance with a $7,000 year-end contribution and 7% return becomes $17,700 after one year: $10,000 × 1.07 + $7,000. Of this, $700 is modeled growth.

How to read your results

The primary figure summarizes the entered scenario. The other figures separate deposits or contributions from modeled interest or investment growth, or show the change in purchasing power or payoff cost. Change an input to compare another scenario; the previous result is hidden until you calculate again.

Frequently asked question

Can everyone contribute the full amount to a Roth IRA?

No. The 2026 combined IRA contribution limit is $7,500, or $8,600 at age 50 or older, and Roth eligibility can be reduced by income and filing status. Taxable compensation and other rules also matter.
